If you’re looking to score a set for your kid that will not only help them with their budding game but also help them develop a playstyle as they improve, then this Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set is for you. Even though the clubs are named after boys, there is no reason why they aren’t perfect for girls as well.

Several members of our staff have taken their daughters out to the course with these clubs, and they have said that their girls love them.

It is recommended that children between the ages of 9 and 12 use the Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set, but some of our younger kids (7 and 8-year-olds) were able to use them as well. Because they are a little long, they are probably best suited to children who are particularly tall.

If they are too short or just under the 9-year-old cutoff, you might want to have an inch or so taken off of them at the pro shop.

All 7 clubs in the set feature study Callaway construction without being too heavy for a child to handle. All of the clubs are lightweight enough for junior players and encourage good swing mechanics. As well as their attractive design (chrome heads with orange accents), they come with matching bags.

A total of seven clubs are included with the Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set. The set includes a driver, a sand wedge, a putter, a 9 iron, a 7 iron, a fairway wood, and a hybrid. With a 360cc driver, it has a large sweet spot that is easy for beginners to use.

To put it simply, the fairway wood is the equivalent of the 3-wood. Despite not being too heavy, our junior golfers were still able to hit long approach shots with good distance. At 24 degrees, the loft angle was good as well.

The putter is a Callaway Odyssey 2 model. Seeing our kids hit consistently good shots with it was what impressed us most.

At just about 30 degrees, the hybrid wood produced some good loft for our kids as well. Among this set, the irons and sand wedge were perhaps the most impressive. In addition to being lightweight, the Callaway cavity back design offers more forgiveness and control on approach shots.

The 7 and 9 iron will reinforce good swing habits if you want your kid to learn how to control spin and ball speed. In addition, the sand wedge features a generous 54-degree loft, and of course, all three sound fantastic to both adults and children.

Also, the bag is of good quality. The bag features a 5-way top for easy and convenient storage, five zippered pockets, a rain hood, a double strap for easy carrying, and even a water bottle holder! Also included are headcovers for your driver, hybrid, and fairway wood.

Finally, here are some thoughts

Overall, Callaway has really delivered with its XJ Hot Junior Set. While offering advanced features, it is not overwhelming to young players. Seven essential clubs are included for youngsters just starting to find their way into the game.

Although the putter needs some work, this is a great set for kids who are just starting out and those who have been playing for a while. It is definitely worth picking them up for your child.
