If you are a beginner, this may be the best putter for you. This putter is designed to give you a smooth stroke and make you feel confident on the putting green. This putter also has a high loft, so it has the ability to produce a lot of spin on the ball. The TaylorMade Spider EX putter is the best putter for beginners who want to feel confident on the putting green.

TaylorMade Spider EX: Style
In designing the Spider EX putter, we wanted something a little more refined than the Spider X model, with a better feel while maintaining high levels of forgiveness.
Although it comes in a bit larger than Spider X, Spider EX has softer lines and a more rounded rear section. It comes in three color options—we tested the silver and blue models. When you address the putter, the new dual line system with three reflective dots certainly helps you set the putter squarely on your intended target line and encourages you to strike the ball centrally.
We had no trouble holing more than usual from short range.
Although the all-white head is arguably a bit overpowering in bright sunlight, the system of lines and dots allows you to subconsciously monitor your stroke path.
Performance of the TaylorMade Spider EX
The Spider EX now comes with a new co-molded insert that’s made from aluminum beams and has fewer grooves than the old version found on the Spider X or the new Spider SR.
One can argue that the Spider EX feels softer while providing a touch more speed, but in reality, the differences aren’t that great.
Even from a long distance, we were genuinely impressed with the ball’s ability to hug the ground and the consistency of the rollout. Even if you make a poor stroke, the stability of the head will keep you out of trouble. We made a few ten-footers that we thought we were going to miss based on our strike.
Certainly, it felt more solid than Spider X. During our testing, the shape and size of the SuperStroke Pistol GTR 1.0 grip facilitated control and feel in the face, while the short slant hosel matched up well with our slightly arced stroke (flow neck and single bend options are available).
Reasons to buy
- stability levels that result in consistent distance control and alignment cues combined with a soft-yet-solid feel.
- Affordable
Reasons to avoid
- In bright sunlight, a white head may be too overpowering.
Verdict
This year, the Spider EX from TaylorMade is certainly a model that you should try if you want maximum forgiveness from a mallet putter. It feels good and isn’t overly large.
