Review of the Garmin Approach X40 GPS Golf Watch

Recently, Garmin released the Approach X40 GPS Golf Watch. We’ve had it for a few weeks now, and in this review we’ll be looking at its features, design, and performance.

With the Approach X40, Garmin is hoping to further the brand’s position as one of the leaders in GPS technology and in the golf space. It’s a new watch from the company that’s pretty different to the approach series that they’ve previously produced. It has a new style, the display still looks small, and there are a number of new features.

Garmin X40 First Impressions:

Over 40,000 courses

The first thing I looked at was how many courses it offered and if I had any courses on it. Over 40,000 courses were included, including the ones I normally attend. Check.

There are courses from a variety of countries; there are no membership fees; and there are always new updates.

It took me a while to get used to the super-small screen (I guess most watches have small screens). Even though the screen was small, the resolution was great, so if you have decent eyesight, you should be fine. In addition, it’s water-resistant, and it’ll last for a few rounds on a single charge.

The distances to hazards, greens, doglegs, and pretty much everything else on the course are displayed. What about how it performed?

Performance

It comes with a heart rate monitor.

Truswing technology

It comes with a green viewer, a heart rate monitor, a round analyzer, Garmin connect, and Truswing technology. The green viewer displays the shape of the green and its distance, as well as a moving pin to see different distances. It’s a very useful tool. Another pretty cool thing is the heart rate monitor, which is pretty self-explanatory.

Golfers can upload their data to Garmin Connect to see how they compare to their competitors. Personally, I don’t do this, but a lot of people do. You can keep track of your stats and metrics with TruSwing technology by attaching a device to your clubs. At the range, it can definitely optimize your game and is a great tool to have.

My expectations were exceeded when it comes to the data and accuracy provided by the X40. The thing doesn’t really serve any purpose if it isn’t accurate, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well it worked. It also impressed me more than the older Garmin X10 (if you have ever used that). great product.

Why Should You Buy the Garmin Approach X40?

If you golf a lot and are committed to improving your game, I’d say it’s worth picking up. It’s not cheap, and you’d only see its benefits if you used it regularly.

Perhaps you don’t like to wear watches as much as I do, so consider that factor as well. It took me a while to get used to wearing it, but now I’m comfortable.

Conclusions

I think the Garmin X40 (available on Amazon) would make a great GPS if you’re looking for a new one, you play golf quite a bit, and you want to improve your game.

The game has a lot of cool features and will definitely improve your performance (at least for me).
