Review of the Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses
If you are looking for a pair of Oakley sunglasses that can do more than simply protect your eyes, look no further than the Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses. Oakley took their Flak 2.0 and updated it with the latest technology.
The Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses are all about comfort and function. They are designed to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. They are also designed to keep your eyes cool and comfortable.
The Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses are available in both men’s and women’s styles. They feature a variety of colors and lens options to suit your individual style.

Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses: Technology
- 100% UV protection
- Polarized lens
- Scratch-resistant coating
These sunglasses come with standard, photochromic, and Prizm (either polarized or Iridium) lenses. Prizm stands for high-definition clarity and contrast. The Prizm lenses I tested were coated with Iridium, a proprietary scratch-resistant coating that minimizes glare. Oakley offers glasses designed to be worn in different settings, such as the field, the road, the trail, or, as in my case, the golf course.
Due to tuned colors and enhanced visibility, I did not lose the white ball against the clouds or as it landed near the tree line.
Oakley’s Prizm golf shades have 100 percent UV protection and 30 percent visible light transmission (VLT), so they are suitable for medium-light conditions. Similarly, this style is also available in Prizm Dark Golf, a 22 percent VLT that’s suitable for use in medium light. This high-definition optics (HDO) exceeds the testing standards of the American National Standards Institute.
The frames are said to be virtually indestructible, and they feel almost unnoticeable on my face compared to my daily aviators. A grippy rubber coating on the stems and nose pads makes the glasses feel secure when swinging, even when your face is damp or dripping with sweat. I found this feature particularly useful during the summer rounds in New Jersey.
Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses: Performance
- Enhanced visibility
- Sun-ray protection
- Scratch-resistant
Thanks to the contrast provided by the lenses, I found that shots hit in the air were much easier to follow down the fairway. As the ball landed near the tree line (more than 250 yards away), the tuned colors and enhanced visibility kept me from losing it against the clouds.
I wasted less time searching for my ball once I knew where my ball (and my playing partners’ balls) finished. The worst feeling in golf is when you lose a ball that you know was in play. If you’re looking for a ball that sort of flies off the tee for one to two minutes per hole, that’s 18 to 36 minutes over 18 holes.
I recommend investing in Oakley’s Prizm lenses if you play as much golf as I do.
It was actually more difficult to find the ball in the rough with the Flak 2.0 XL Prizms, just like most sunglasses. As I got close to the finish line, removing the glasses made the ball easier to see. This is also true when reading greens. With my naked eyes, I was able to easily determine the grain and slope on the putting surface.
In the absence of clouds, I switch to a pair of polarized Ray-Bans that block more light. The Flak 2.0 XL Prizms were comfortable to wear even under cloud cover and overcast skies.
Lenses that are scratch-resistant are exceptionally durable. I dropped them several times over the course of three rounds and kept them inside a pocket in my golf bag, but there is no visible damage. In fact, they look brand new. Oakley does sell replacement lenses for $50 if you damage them or run over them with a golf cart.
Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses: Design
- Polarising
- Customizable
- Classic-looking frame
There are some people who do not look great wearing the Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses. These glasses are more appropriate for a SWAT team training ground than a golf course. However, the links are usually a place where you can march to the beat of your own fashion drum. The Flak 2.0 XL Prizm is not something I would wear off the field. Oakley offers its Golf Prizm lenses in the Target line and Mainlink frames if you prefer a more classic-looking frame.
In terms of helping players watch their golf ball fly, the Iridium Prizm lenses are second to none.
Although the 37-millimeter height of the lenses is too small for larger faces, the 59-millimeter-wide lens is substantial without feeling too large. Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses are only available in black with a golf-specific “rose” lens that actually looks purple. It’s possible to customize a pair on the Oakley website (there’s even a prescription lens option).
Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses: Maintenance
- Micro bags are available for cleaning
- Easy to clean
- Spare pair of nose pads are available
Besides the Sport Soft Vault Case, Oakley offers a “micro bag” that you can use to store your specs and wipe down any smudges. In order to see clearly, you’ll want to keep your lenses clean. During the round, wipe them off a few times with the micro bag.
My Prizms were stored in my golf bag’s valuables pocket for a few weeks with no issues, and I’ve even checked a previous pair on international flights without damage. You can also get a spare pair of nose pads when you wear yours out.
Price
A little pricey, these glasses are likely to be used only on the golf course. The Prizm lenses, however, are the best for golf, and if you have trouble seeing where your ball goes, they will help you.
Competition: Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm vs Torge Guardian Spirit Polarized Sports Sunglasses
Other brands, like Nike and Under Armour, make golf-specific sunglasses, but Oakley is mostly competing against itself due to its unsurpassed lens quality. Besides the Torge Guardian Spirit Polarized Sports Sunglasses, I also tried the Torge Guardian Spirit Polarized Sports Sunglasses, which are less comfortable and simply designed but perform well considering the very low price point of under $30. Choosing the right pair depends on how often you’ll wear them and how much you want to spend.
Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm Golf Sunglasses make sense if you play a lot of golf because being able to see the ball clearly saves a lot of time during a round. If you don’t like the style, consider choosing another frame containing Prizm lenses.
